HLC Opposes Amendment to Cybersecurity Measure that Would Discourage Information Sharing on Threats

data_securityThe Healthcare Leadership Council today expressed its opposition to a proposed amendment to the Cybersecurity Information Sharing Act, currently under consideration by the U.S. Senate. The amendment could strip liability protections from healthcare organizations that voluntarily share information about possible cyber threats.

Such an amendment, HLC insists, would discourage the inter-organizational communications necessary to protect against the growing danger of cyber attacks on data systems. The Senate Intelligence Committee chairman, Senator Richard Burr (R-NC), and ranking minority member, Senator Dianne Feinstein (D-CA), have said they will oppose the amendment on the Senate floor.

The Healthcare Leadership Council, comprised of chief executives of the nation’s leading healthcare companies and organizations, has endorsed the Cybersecurity Information Sharing Act.
