“Sounding the Alarm” – HLC Warns of Consequences Ahead of House Reconciliation Bill Mark-Ups

The Healthcare Leadership Council (HLC), the leading health industry association representing CEOs and C-suite executives from all sectors of healthcare, released the following statement from President and CEO Maria Ghazal as the House Energy and Commerce Committee is poised to take action on reconciliation recommendations:

“The deep cuts to the Medicaid program being considered today threaten to strip a critical lifeline from our most vulnerable citizens — including children, seniors, and individuals with disabilities. Our cross-sectoral membership is involved in every step of the care continuum – providing a unique perspective on the importance of Medicaid’s impact on coverage. Despite laudable efforts to target fraud, waste, and abuse, we are sounding the alarm because these policies will result in millions of Americans losing access to vital health services and treatments. The consequences for public health and community well-being would be devastating.

“We urge Congressional leaders to re-visit this approach and instead focus on pursuing targeted reforms that strengthen the Medicaid program without jeopardizing patients’ ability to access care.”
