Through advocacy, policy development, stakeholder engagement, and collaboration, HLC works to improve the health and well-being of all Americans.

Program Overview

The HLC Fellowship Program is a highly competitive, immersive professional development opportunity designed to prepare emerging healthcare leaders for careers in healthcare policy, advocacy, stakeholder engagement, and healthcare leadership.

Fellows are integrated into HLC’s Policy & Advocacy team and gain exposure to the diverse sectors represented across HLC’s membership. Through hands-on policy work, executive mentorship, professional development programming, and direct engagement with healthcare leaders and policymakers, fellows develop the skills and relationships necessary to become future leaders in healthcare.

Ideal Candidate

The ideal fellow is intellectually curious, mission-driven, and passionate about improving healthcare. Successful candidates will demonstrate strong writing and analytical skills, a collaborative mindset, and a desire to engage with senior healthcare leaders and policymakers while contributing to meaningful healthcare policy initiatives. Self-starters who thrive working independently while also bringing energy, collaboration, and fresh ideas to a diverse and dynamic team will do best.

Fellowship Responsibilities

During the fellowship, participants will:

• Conduct healthcare policy research and analysis.
• Draft policy briefs, coalition materials, letters of support, and responses to requests for information (RFIs).
• Monitor federal legislative and regulatory developments.
• Contribute to HLC publications, member communications, and digital content.
• Participate in meetings with congressional offices, administration officials, member organizations, and external stakeholders.
• Support HLC membership meetings, executive programs, and policy committee activities.
• Assist with strategic initiatives and special projects across the organization.

Fellowship Support

• Monthly stipend of $2,500

Enrollment & Eligibility Criteria

Applicants must meet the following requirements:

Required Qualifications

• Recent graduate, graduate student, professional student, or early-career professional with a demonstrated interest in healthcare policy, healthcare administration, public policy, government affairs, advocacy, or related fields.
• Bachelor’s degree required by the start of the fellowship.
• Strong academic record.
• Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
• Exceptional research, analytical, and critical thinking abilities.
• Strong organizational and project management skills.
• Ability to manage multiple assignments in a fast-paced environment.
• Demonstrated professionalism, initiative, and commitment to healthcare leadership.

Preferred Qualifications

• Coursework or experience in healthcare policy, public policy, political science, public health, health administration, law, economics, or a related discipline.
• Previous internship, fellowship, advocacy, research, or healthcare-related experience.
• Experience drafting policy, research, or analytical materials.
