Role Summary

The Director of Health Policy manages specific policy issues to support the work of HLC and its members. Primary areas of focus for this position will include data governance, competition, and innovation. This individual will have the opportunity to work with some of the most influential health policy experts in Washington.

The ideal candidate will be a strong writer, highly organized, with the ability to work independently and execute in a fast-paced collaborative environment.

Core Responsibilities
  • Manage specific policy issues including interoperability, cybersecurity, and data privacy, as well as protection of intellectual property and maintaining a competitive private healthcare market.
  • Understand, track and report legislative and regulatory implementation efforts.
  • Draft comment letters, issue papers, reports, presentations, and other materials as necessary.
  • Represent HLC in various healthcare coalitions and initiatives.
  • Develop information and resources for HLC members and external audiences.
  • Organize and execute membership meetings, congressional briefings, and other events.
  • Respond to member inquiries or direct inquiries to subject matter experts as appropriate.
  • Manage relationships with HLC members, outside vendors, and consultants as appropriate.
  • Attend and monitor government hearings and health industry events as assigned.
  • Report to the Head of Policy & Advocacy and assist in other activities as requested to further the success of the policy department.
Basic Qualifications
  • 4 – 7 years of experience in healthcare policy or similar position.
  • Deep knowledge of healthcare policy with demonstrated understanding and interest in areas noted above.
  • Superior writing skills and the ability to analyze and summarize policy proposals.
  • Demonstrated time management and organizational skills.
  • Ability to work independently and in teams to meet deadlines.
  • Bachelor’s degree required; advanced degree preferred (MPH, MS, MBA, PharmD, PhD) in health policy, public policy, health economics, healthcare management, public health, public administration, business administration, or relevant discipline.

Flexible Hybrid Schedule

HLC has a flexible hybrid work schedule. All staff are welcome to work remotely on Monday and Friday, and in August, HLC employees are offered the option to work remotely every day of the week for most of the month. Additional remote work is offered in mid-December.
