Today, HLC submitted comments to the White House Office of Science and Technology Policy in response to the Request for Information (RFI) on regulatory reform for Artificial Intelligence (AI). The letter highlights a patchwork of individual state policies as a key burden impeding AI deployment and emphasizes the need for cooperation between regulators and stakeholders to balance innovation with individual rights and patient safety. The response includes sample use cases from HLC members as well as joint principles for responsible AI in healthcare. Specifically, the principles call for a risk-based federal standard that preempts state regulation, harmonizes privacy standards, and promotes transparency.
