HLC Statement on Senate Finance Committee Budget Reconciliation Language

HLC President and CEO Maria Ghazal said:

“The new legislative text set forth by the Senate Finance Committee threatens a critical lifeline for millions of individuals by reducing access to and raising cost-sharing for vital Medicaid coverage.

“Our members work across every stage of the care continuum, giving us a clear understanding of how these policies threaten the stability of the entire healthcare system.

“Despite commendable efforts to target fraud, waste, and abuse, if enacted, this legislation will undercut access to care for people in need, while increasing cost-sharing for patients and reducing funding for providers. Without necessary resources, hospitals will be forced to eliminate services or close altogether, with rural communities bearing the brunt of the fallout.

“We urge Senators to talk to the providers and patients these cuts will harm. Don’t move forward without a full, honest assessment of what’s at stake.”
