The Healthcare Leadership Council issued the following statement from President and CEO Maria Ghazal in response to the release of the Administration’s National AI Legislative Framework:
“We are encouraged that many of the priorities outlined in the National AI Legislative Framework closely align with the healthcare industry’s goals of responsibly improving outcomes for patients. The framework builds on several recommendations in HLC’s recent report, which offers a sector-wide perspective on the current state of AI in healthcare and details the public‑sector support needed to fully realize its potential.
“While there are still many details to be ironed out, this framework is an important step forward. HLC believes a unified federal framework is key to unlocking AI’s full potential to improve care and increase life-saving cures, which is a core objective of the President’s plan.
“We are also pleased to see the inclusion of training, education, and regulatory sandboxes as a means for enabling ingenuity and innovation in this area, as these were some of the key components of the tactics and recommendations in our report.
“We look forward to continuing to engage with policymakers on both sides of the aisle to ensure this and future initiatives address the unique barriers and opportunities towards unleashing responsible use of AI in healthcare.
